The rats and the undertows
Today, candidates for Mayor representing the parties of RPA and "Rule of Law" were absent for the debate on the Yerevan Elders Council Elections which was organized by "Civilitas" fund.
The representatives of the other 5 parties, who were there discussed problems which are actual for Yerevan residents and spoke about the possible solution of those problems.
According to the polls held by "Civilitas" fund, the main problem which is actual for 27% of Yerevan residents is the problem of garbage cleaning. The second actual problem (20%) is unemployment and on the third place (6%) is poverty and social-economic condition.
"Squandering and waste of money must be reduced in Yerevan budget and vital problems must be solved. Speaking about garbage, is it not possible to build a garbage-processing plant?", mentions Vardan Oskanyan, who is number 1 in "Prosperous Armenia" list.
Armen Martirosyan from "Heritage" party mentions that Yerevan has become a city of supermarkets and that is a problem for small and medium businesses.
And Number 1 in ANC (Armenian National Congress) list, former Mayor Vahagn Khachatryan adds that additional taxes create serious difficulties for salesmen.
"As for the garbage problem, there are places, where you can see how people take away garbage with whole buckets. This has something to do with so called "undertows" - hidden business. In garbage cleaning sphere this mechanism of "undertows" works especially effective. The struggle against rats was always ineffective and the same thing is here as far as I can see", Khachatrayn says.
Speaking about cooperatives, the participants of the debate pointed the fact that cooperatives are wholly politicized instead of being engaged in economic issues.
And the only solution of all problems the representative of ARF Armen Rustamyan sees in getting rid of totalitarian authority.
