Two nephews of Vardan Ghukasyan, a former mayor of Armenia's Gyumri city, were detained overnight by the Gyumri police.

Karen Babakekhyan, the chief of police of Shirak province, told the local GALA TV that the arrest was in no way linked to Tuesday's shooting in Gyumri.

"Kolya and Hovhannes Ghukasyans were arrested on suspicion of drug possession," said the police official.

Earlier on Friday, the police issued a release saying they had arrested a man whose father was injured in the shooting on April 23. Gevorg Khachatryan turned himself in at a local police station on April 25 and said that on April 23 he intended to pursue Vahe Ghukasyan, the man who wounded his father Harutyun Khachatryan during the shooting, with the aim of taking revenge.

As a result of the April 23 shooting, Harutyun Khachatryan and Artyom Karapetyan were taken to hospital with bullet wounds. Karapetyan later died in hospital.
On April 24, the local police arrested Vahe Ghukasyan, a nephew of Gyumri's ex-mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, as the main suspect in the case. The latter pleaded guilty to the crime.
