Public interest in Yerevan's Council of Elders elections has not reduced as compared with 2009, say political analysts. The fact that the first leaders of the political forces participating in the May 5 election are passive is a tactical maneuver.

Hardly had the passions following the presidential election faded away, when the campaign for municipal elections was announced, that is why some political parties perceived it as the continuation of the struggle for the presidential chair, say the analysts.

Political scientist Andranik Tevanyan objects the authorities' claims that the upcoming municipal elections should not be seen as a way of pursuing political goals.
"They say it is better to have a single system in order to have a better capital... This is bluff, there is no such thing," he said.
