Vahagn Khachatryan condemns assault on journalist
Vahagn Khachatryan, who tops the candidates' list of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) in the May 5 municipal election, condemns yesterday's assault on a journalist during a campaign meeting with incumbent mayor Taron Margaryan. He considers the use of violence against journalists is unacceptable.
"Only weak people, who consider themselves to be in power, can do such a thing, showing their weakness. I am convinced that they [the Republican Party of Armenia] are holding fake election campaign. I do not accept such behaviour but let us wait for the government's assessment. Yesterday's incident again proves that freedom of speech is restricted in Armenia. An independent person is endangered in this country," said Mr Khachatryan.
