Police on removal of Yerevan Police Chief
Police in Armenia have released a statement about media reports concerning the revelation of a financial pyramid and discoveries about the activity of former Yerevan Police Chief Nerses Nazaryan.
"Haykakan Zhamanak daily has been writing for several days about the revelation of a financial pyramid created and controlled by high ranking police officials. The police have no such information and offer all those who have any information provide it to the police. We assure you that proper investigation will be launched based on the data and the public will once again become convinced that the police fully perform its obligations prescribed by law," the statement runs.
As for the removal of Yerevan police chief Nerses Nazaryan - a theme widely discussed in different circles in the past days, we should say that it is a job-related matter and fits into the logic of reforms underway in the police.
"It is a matter of principle for the police to exclude all kinds of combinations of police service and business, the so-called coalescence with some strata of society, which is inevitable when working at the same place for a long time and has negative influence on job-related activities.
In the given case, our study has shown that the efficiency of Yerevan Garrison has declined which is unacceptable and hence speedy steps must be taken to correct the situation.
Police attach great importance to the full implementation of its mission and find that the rest is simply baseless and meaningless talk," reads the statement.
