Levon Ter-Petrosyan took a radical step
The Armenian National Congress (HAK) has been refined and freed from opportunists, says political analyst Yervand Bozoyan.
"The people affiliated with HAK know that HAK will not come to power in the near future. These are enthusiastic people," he said.
The political analyst says in his Saturday's speech HAK Leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan singled out the grounds which made it possible to protect HAK from the influence of the authorities. "Ter-Petrosyan went to a radical change; he reformulated the movement to a party to mitigate contradictions inside the alliance. The new party is more mobile and has a greater potential than the decomposing and splitting alliance," he said.
Harutyun Mesrobyan, an expert in management, says our political figures have been saying the same things for at least 20 years.
He believes that the new party will not bring significant and qualitative changes as its members have the same psychology as the HHSh (Pan-Armenian National Movement) members.
"If you draw parallels between them you will see no changes. HHSh did not make the world turn around. HAK will not make new discoveries either," he said.
Speaking at the founding congress of the HAK party on Saturday Levon Ter-Petrosyan said, "Those who want to become president must know the way to reach it is to win Yerevan mayoral elections."
The analysts hold different opinions on Ter-Petrosyan's statement.
"The local government system is the smithy where the political elite is moulded," said Yervand Bozoyan.
"The acting authorities win in non-elections," said Harutyun Mesrobyan.
