Communist: System can be changed by labourers
It is impossible to change anything in Armenia through elections, says Leader of Armenia's Communist Party Ruben Tovmasyan.
"Only labourers with the help of farmers and intelligentsia representatives can be able to change the system," says the chief communist.
That is why the Communist Party has decided not to participate in the May 5 municipal elections. Ruben Tovmasyan is surprised at the amount of the election deposit the political forces are required to pay.
"Why should I pay deposit if I am not going to buy anything? We should finally put an end to this shameful situation," he said.
The National Conciliation Party is not participating in the municipal elections either. The party accounts its decision for the opposition's failure to unite.
"We also think that having 2-3 representatives in the City Council will not solve the existing problems," said Aram Harutyunyan, the chairman of the National Conciliation Party.
He believes that the opposition would win in case it united ahead of the upcoming polls.
"They should not target at the incumbent mayor [Taron Margaryan] or the Council of Elders. They should target at the acting authorities," he said.
