Hovannisian: Surik Khachatryan did not keep his promise
On April 1, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian started his four-day victory tour to Armenian regions. His first stop was in Kapan, the center of Syunik marz (province) where the policemen announced over megaphones that the rally attendees might be subjected to administrative liability, as the City Hall had not be notified about the rally in advance. In response, people led by Raffi Hovannisian began vociferating, "Armenia!"
In his speech, the Heritage leader said he was not going to retreat. "There will be no fear, no threat. These are the last labor pains before the inauguration of a new Armenia," Hovannisian said in his speech.
The Heritage leader, who is disputing the re-election of Serzh Sargsyan in the February 18 presidential election, stressed that the governor of Syunik marz, Surik Khachatryan, did not keep his promise and meet Hovannisian but sent a few provocateurs instead.
Raffi Hovannisian urged everyone to be in Yerevan's Freedom Square on April 9 where they will be marking their final victory.
Ending his meeting in Kapan, Raffi Hovannisian headed for Goris and Sisian where he is scheduled to meet with local residents. As always the tour will culminate in Freedom Square, with a major rally scheduled for 6pm on Friday, April 5.
Raffi Hovannisian ended his 21-day hunger strike in Freedom Square on Sunday and headed for Holy Echmiadzin to attend an Easter Service together with his family. He said he was going there together with his family as an ordinary Christian and follower of the Armenian Apostolic Church and did not pursue political goals or seek a meeting with Serzh Sargsyan at the mass who also attended the liturgy in Echmiadzin.
