Serzh Sargsyan responds to Raffi Hovannisian
Serzh Sargsyan has responded to the proposals made by the leader of the opposition Heritage party, Raffi Hovannisian, at his recent rally in Yerevan's Freedom Square. The proposals were sent to Serzh Sargsyan in the format of a letter.
"I am thankful to you for accepting my proposal made earlier this year and putting down your ideas on paper. Though the letter you have addressed to me is far from the idea of forming a state and state authority and contradicts the acting constitutional regulations, it may help in starting an effective dialogue. I am glad to see your willingness to assume serious control functions consistent with strong opposition: in this context our approaches seem to be quite close. I am sure that if we begin to work together purposefully, based on the commonalities of ideas, we will definitely reach a result
I ask you to stop the hunger strike, recover for a couple of days and then we shall start working seriously, without shows, on your proposals, taking into consideration the yet raw material you have offered."
Raffi Hovannisian has been staging hunger strike in Freedom Square since March 10 against the official results of the February 18 vote.
Addressing his supporters at a Friday rally in the square, Hovannisian made clear that he will continue his hunger strike and street protests until Serzh Sargsyan's inauguration for a second term due on April 9.
