Political parties have not submitted documents
None of the political parties participating in the Yerevan City Council elections have submitted with the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) the documents required for registration, three days before the nomination deadline, said CEC Spokesperson Hermine Harutyunyan.
A number of political forces, including the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun), Country of Law (OEK), Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Heritage and Armenian National Congress (HAK) have already announced their intention to contest the upcoming election but none of them have submitted applications with the CEC.
The Council of Elders includes 65 members who are elected to four-year terms. The mayor of the city is elected by the Council of Elders. Under the law, candidates for mayor are nominated by factions in the Council of Elders. Bids are to be submitted from March 11 to 21.
