Serzh Sargsyan's ‘letter’ to Heritage party leader
Secretary of the Heritage parliamentary group, Zaruhi Postanjyan, issued a statement entitled "Incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan's letter to newly-elected president of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian."
"Dear Raffi,
Since February 18 I have been seeking right or wrong decisions in politics and everyday life.
Socrates said, "It is better to suffer evil than to do it."
I realized we sustained a defeat when we let morals come into conflict with politics. In fact, I think about the good and evil, but in the political arena I act with others, which is not in harmony with morality.
I know that I made a mistake by laying a serious political claim without respecting the principle of harmony. I follow the developments in Freedom Square and see your suffering. I see and feel that you are happy, you love people and are loved by them.
I see morals gaining victory over a well thought-out policy.
Dear Raffi, I admit your victory, our common and united victory.
I accept the spirit and agenda of Freedom Square.
I announce openly and sincerely that I do not want to be ‘imprisoned in a dark cell' any more and I do not want to shrink responsibility.
I am ready to participate in the inauguration of the fourth president of Armenia [Raffi Hovannisian] in Freedom square on April 9. After the ceremony I will request him to pardon me and all of us.
