Presidential candidate taken to operating room
Armenian presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan is currently in the operating room in Grigor Lusavorich medical center where he will undergo surgery on Friday.
A number of state and public figures, presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian, Vice-Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Galust Sahakian and many others have been visiting Hayrikyan since early morning.
After his meeting with Paruyr Hayrikyan, Leader of the opposition Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian said Hayrikyan had been his teacher. He also expressed his regrets over the incident, saying ‘it was a blow to the statehood.'
Mr Hovannisian also said he was ready to wait if the Central Election Commission decided to postpone the election over the incident.
HHK Vice-Chairman Galust Sahakian says the assassination attempt is politically motivated.
Presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan received a gunshot wound in Yerevan's Kentron administrative district later on Thursday. He was taken to Yerevan's St Grigor Lusavorich medical center with a gunshot wound. A criminal case has been instigated.
