Karen Andreasyan: This is crime
Armenia's Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan condemns yesterday's assassination attempt on presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan.
I consider this to be sabotage against the state and urge the relevant authorities to start an inquest into the attempt," Mr Andreasyan told A1+.
Anyway, the Ombudsman's Office is not going to issue a statement on the incident.
"Should there be a controversial issue, we would release a statement, but I see nothing controversial here. We are speaking about a crime, unacceptable conduct and human pain, as well as trepidation and anxiety connected with the upcoming election," he said.
The Ombudsman's Office will make a statement only if the investigation takes other direction.
Paruyr Hayrikyan, Chairman of the Union of National Self-Determination Union, was shot yesterday evening by unknown people. Hayrikyan was rushed to St. Grigor Lusavorich medical center with gun wounds where he will undergo surgery later on Friday.
A criminal case has been opened in connection with the assassination attempt. The National Security Service is conducting the investigation.
