Azerbaijan is trying to change the OSCE Minsk Group format, seeking to involve Turkey in the talks over the Karabakh conflict, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said on Jan. 30 speaking about the recent Paris-hosted meeting between the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs and Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers.

"As long as Azerbaijan aims to reshape the format of negotiations, Armenia should do its utmost to retain the OSCE Minsk Group format. At the same time, Armenia should not take drastic measures to oppose Azerbaijan so as not to harm its own interests," said the expert.

This is why during the recent meeting the Armenian side laid the main accent on humanitarian issues, focusing on the operating of Stepanakert airport.

"The operation of Stepanakert airport was also discussed at the meeting with the OSCE mediators and judging by Serzh Sargsyan's statement that the airport will definitely be put into operation in the near future, we can say that Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian achieved tangible success in Paris," he continued.

The expert stresses that Armenia today has better relations with the international community which cannot be said about Azerbaijan.

"I am not only speaking about the operation of Stepanakert airport, but also security of frontier villages, withdrawal of snipers from the frontline and other measures that will presumably weaken the tension between the sides," he concluded.
