Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan received Wednesday Heidi Tagliavini, Head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) and Elissavet Karagiannidou, a legal analyst of the mission.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the shortcomings of the previous parliamentary elections and the preparation for the forthcoming presidential elections.

Members of the OSCE/ODIHR mission attached importance to the Ombudsman's involvement in electoral processes and showed great interest in the Ombudsman's report on the parliamentary elections. Also, they raised a number of issues, including the insufficient number of local and international observers, the mistrust of the public in electoral processes, the involvement of the Ombudsman in the election-related working group, etc.

Heidi Tagliavini voiced hope that the cooperation with the RA Ombudsman's Office would be continuous, underlining again that the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission attaches importance to the work done by the Ombudsman.

Karen Andreasyan, in his turn, expressed willingness to contribute to any initiative related to the issues raised during the meeting, the RA Ombudsman's Office reports.
