The Central Election Committee (CEC) today rejected the statement of presidential nominee Andrias Ghukasyan who demanded that the CEC revoke the registration of Serzh Sargsyan, the candidate of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK).

"The statement is unfounded," CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan said when refusing the candidate.

Andrias Ghukasyan told reporters after the session that he will go on indefinite hunger-strike from January 21.

The presidential hopeful added that he will stop the hunger strike only when his demand is met by the relevant bodies.

Mr Ghukasyan says he predicted the answer before applying to the CEC; however, he wanted to know ‘the position of the state' to decide his further strategy.

On January 15, Andrias Ghukasyan sent a letter to the CEC Chairman demanding to invalide the registration of presidential candidate Serzh Sargsyan before the start of the election campaign, otherwise, he said he would go on hunger strike for an indefinite term.
