Seyran Ohanyan: My sons are serving in the army
The Ministry of Defense will exercise strict control during the February 18 presidential election so that the voting in the army is conducted without violations and incidents, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan told a press conference on January 18.
Today the minister summed up the past year, stressing the achievements in the army. He says they will wage an uncompromising struggle against those who tarnish the army's reputation with the inconsistent and unscrupulous behaviour.
Regarding the rumours that the sons of state officials evade military service for ungrounded reasons, Mr Ohanyan reminded that his two sons are serving in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
"The sons of our ministers and deputy ministers, high-ranking officials, generals and officers serve in the Armed Forces on an equal footing. Even those who leave the country to study abroad, complete military service upon their return," said the minister.
Speaking about Azerbaijan's threats to shoot down civilian planes flying from or to Stepanakert airport, the Armenian Defense Minister said, "Armenian air forces will ensure the scheduled flights of the civil airplanes."
Mr Ohanyan excluded the resumption of hostilities, irrespective of Baku's anti-Armenian policy, arms race and provocations.
