Hayrikyan's historical moment has come
Leader of the Union for National Self-Determination (AIM), presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan says the other candidates [standing for president] are his friends, rather than contenders.
"Simply they have forgotten their past because of their ambitions," Hayrikyan told a news conference on January 9.
"We have an advantage over them as we do not give people promises; we say we shall help people get what belongs to them - the right to self-determination. We have been saying this since the day the AIM was established," he said.
The candidate is convinced that the other candidates will encounter difficulties in the tense struggle as it will not be easy to beat Hayrikyan. "None of the political figures engaged in the race has privileges over me from the political point of view," he stressed.
Paruyr Hayrikyan has not yet chosen a slogan though he says they have several options, including "Hayrikyan's historical moment has come."
The AIM leader is angry with people who take electoral bribe. "Selling one's homeland is even worse than selling one's children or husband," he said.
Hayrikyan's teammates have conducted an election poll survey to know people's opinion about the presidential candidates. The survey revealed that half of the voters, who voted for Serzh Sargsyan's party during the May 2012 elections, are not going to vote for Sargsyan in February's election.
