5000 Syrian Armenians to participate in election
On January 7, the Central Election Commission will give the presidential candidates, who have not yet paid the election deposit of 8 million AMD, 48 hours to pay the money.
"The candidates have a chance to address the deficiency in the application within the given period (48 hours) and submit the required documents," says CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan.
The registration of candidates will continue till January 14. As of January 7, only seven of the 15 candidates have paid the election deposit.
Tigran Mukuchyan also said that the CEC has solved the problem of disappearing stamps in passports, one of the key concerns in May's parliamentary elections. About 2250 bottles of ink will be imported from England in the near future which will be given to the 1988 precincts.
The CEC Chairman also assured the presentees that they would punish everyone who would attempt to rig the presidential election. In this context, the CEC seeks the support of all forces who have not fielded a candidate in February's vote.
In conclusion, Mr Mukuchyan added that all Syrian Armenians, who already have Armenian citizenship, could go to the polls to elect President. About 5000 Syrian Armenians have already received RA citizenship.
