In 2013, the Diaspora Ministry will continue assisting the Syrian Armenians settled in Armenia.

"Unfortunately, the situation continues to remain tense in Syria. We must do everything for the Syrian Armenians to feel like home here," said Minister Hranush Hakobyan.

About 6000 Syrian Armenians arrived in the country in 2012. Seven hundred of them are currently unemployed, only 300 have been able to somehow solve the problem of employment.

The Minister also highlighted the process of granting dual citizenship to Syrian Armenians.

It is very important that each Armenian have the passport of his country in his hands, under his chest and in his pocket," she said.

Speaking about the upcoming presidential elections and the Ministry's role in them, Hranush Hakobyan said, "If we are engaged in the elections as representatives of the presidential team, it means we are helping the political processes to be more smoothly and easily. As a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, I would like February's election to be qualitatively different from the previous elections. Also, I would like to see our nation united."
