Vartan Oskanian: They ignore Armenia's image and authority
Armenia's ex-Foreign Minister, Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) MP, Vartan Oskanian, has commented on Facebook account on the intercepted footage his private conversation with Levon Zurabyan, head of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction.
"There is nothing sensational in the meeting [with Levon Zurabyan] and in the content of our conversation. As Armenian citizens, MPs and political figures, we are free to exercise our right of meeting in any place and speaking about any topic," he wrote.
"The only sensation is that two MPs [elected by the people] are being persecuted, with the state wasting state resources to secretly recording them," he wrote.
Vartan Oskanian says he has three observations in this regard.
1. Whatever they did is completely unacceptable, condemnable and illegal. I think law enforcement authorities must be consistent, discover the people behind this record and hold them accountable.
2. People who recorded the conversation completely ignore Armenia's image and authority.
3. Obviously, some people confuse the protection of state interests with the protection of authorities' interests.
