Styopa Safaryan, a candidate of the opposition Heritage party who was running in Sunday's by-election in election district no. 1 stationed in Yerevan's Avan administrative district, has thanked everyone on his Facebook account for the kind and sincere words.

"My dear friends,
Thank you for the warm words. I am sorry that that I could not bring you victory but I assure you that one cannot enjoy the "almost-grasped" victory as ill-gotten victory never thrives. You cannot take or seize a thing that does not belong to you. I have encountered numerous such examples in my life. Do not be disappointed or discouraged!" he wrote.

Republican Party candidate Robert Sargsyan, the brother-in-law of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, won at the election district receiving 18,805 votes. His contenders Styopa Safaryan (Heritage party) and Eduard Petrosyan (People's Party of Armenia) received 3,680 and 461 votes respectively.
