Witnesses tell about 1915 killings
The National Archives of Armenia published a three-volume book entitled "Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire: Testimonies of Survivors" ahead of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide in 2015.
"The center of the book is a human being who witnessed the inhumane massacre of his relatives, friends and people living in his community," Director of the National Archives Amatuni Virabyan told reporters on Nov. 28.
Most of the testimonies and facts found in the three-volume collection were compiled a year after the massacres and deportations.
In the third volume of the book, a Greek merchant [from Karin] recalls in detail the killings of 1915. "He gave much information to us," said Mr Virabyan.
The book contains 602 documents most of which have not been published in the past. The book will go on sale next week. Readers can buy it in bookstores at AMD 20000. The proceeds from the sale will be spent on the translation of the book into Turkish, English and Russian languages.
The book was compiled and published with the financial assistance of Van NGO.
