BHK MP: NA session has not finished
Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) MP Lyova Khachatryan, who has been elected to parliament three times under the majoritarian electoral system, is a stanch defender of the full proportional representation system.
Mr Khachatryan says the parliamentary majority should not have thwarted the opposition-initiated special session which was to address the draft amendments to the country's electoral code.
We witnessed an interesting thing, the chairman of the session did not register [which means he was absent] but continued to preside over the meeting. I think that the session has not finished as its chairman had no right to continue it during his ‘absence,' said the BHK lawmaker.
The chairman of the special session was Vice-chairman of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov.
Regarding the recent statement of BHK Leader Gagik Tsarukyan, who said he had made his decision on whether or not he would run for president in next February's elections, Mr Khachatryan said, "I have not heard anything of the kind."
Lyova Khachatryan says his party will publicize its decision on the presidential candidate after the sitting of the political council.
