Free Democrats likely to name female candidate
The Free Democrats party is likely to name a female candidate for the 2013 presidential election in Armenia, vice-chairperson of the party, Anush Sedrakyan, told a news conference on Monday.
She did not exclude that she might run for president and said the ‘issue is still under consideration in the party.'
Her opponent at the Hayeli (Mirror) club, Republican Artak Davtyan, expressed his positive attitude to Sedrakian's possible nomination.
"This will be a good gesture addressed to the political field that will have a positive impact on the political atmosphere on the eve of the presidential election," he said.
Artak Davtyan also said that if his party did not have its own candidate, they would likely back Anush Sedrakyan.
Speaking about the political developments Anush Sedrakyan said, "Prosperous Armenia Party is imitating to be an opposition force."
The member of Free Democrats party said during the upcoming ewlection people would have to choose the lesser of the two evils. Artak Davtyan immediately opposed her saying people would simply try to make the best choice.
Regarding the political consultations initiated by Prosperous Armenia Party, Anush Sedrakyan said they are belated. "These consultations were to be held three years ago," she said.
