HAK Coordinator sees glow of revolution
Activists and supporters of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) again picketed outside the Prosecutor General's Office in Yerevan.
Carrying the posters "Criminal Courts," "Armenia without Political Prisoners", "Punish the Judge," they called on the country's authorities to immediately release HAK activists Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, David Kiramijyan and Sargis Gevorgyan.
HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan said that the "Friday pickets keep the flame of mass events burning. I am sure that in the context of the presidential elections, it can turn into a revolution," he said.
The HAK activists were taken into custody after an August 2011 standoff with police officers in a Yerevan park and were immediately charged with hooliganism against a representative of law-enforcement body. Tigran Arakelyan, David Kiramijyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and Artak Karapetyan were later sentenced to 2-6 years in prison.
