Erdoğan should be sent to prison, say Kurds
Kurds in Armenia today staged a protest action outside the UN Office in Yerevan demanding the immediate release of their leader Abdullah Öcalan and the other Kurdish political prisoners jailed in Turkey.
The demonstrators headed from Shahumyan Square to the UN Office, vociferating "Freedom to Political Prisoners!" "Freedom to Öcalan!" "Erdoğan, you are Fascist."
"Erdoğan should be sent to prison to replace Öcalan. The latter should be freed to lead the Kurdish people again. We are not going to tolerate Turkish harassment against the Kurds," says Jenya Amiryan, a representative of the Kurdish community.
The Kurdish people call on the international community to listen to their demands and release the political prisoners.
"The world superpowers have not responded to our demands yet. We know that our voice will not be heard to them but they cannot neglect the voice of Kurdish women," she said.
Chairman of Kurdish community of Armenia Knyaz Hasanov says if their Kurdish friends are not set free, they will join their Kurdish brothers who declared a hunger strike in Turkey two months ago.
"Two months ago, the Kurdish community in Armenia staged a hunger strike and, if necessary, we shall repeat it," he said.
The demonstrators handed over a letter to a UN representative.
