Raffi Hovannisian to run for president
Leader of the opposition Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian today meet with reporters in Armenia. During the short press conference that lasted about ten minutes, Mr Hovannisian announced his intention to run for president in the 2013 elections.
After the announcement the Heritage leader left, promising to answer all questions on November 5.
"I am doing this as an Armenian citizen who feels responsibility and guilt for the current situation in the country and wants to participate in the recovery. I am also sending an invitation to ordinary citizens, intellectuals, young people, activists and parties to participate in the process.
I am addressing to all Armenians who believe that the country does not belong to any political party and I expect the participation and support of those who want the country to hold a truly democratic referendum. I seek the participation of those who expect that the family of their president must be impoverished in Armenia as long as there is even one poor family in the republic. I am appealing to all those who cannot endure lies and fraud and who wish to see Armenia as a sovereign country," said Mr Hovannisian.
"And if the upcoming elections are free, fair and transparent, compliant with Armenian standards, the country will have a new president and at least a serious competition. Otherwise, I am ready to take the civil struggle to the final victory, if, of course, people are ready to combine words with action," he said.
