European Liberal Youth calls for release of HAK activist
European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) calls on Armenian authorities to immediately release Tigran Arakelyan, an activist of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK). In a special resolution adopted during its conference, the Organization demands that the country's leadership stop political persecution against the three HAK activists.
Eva Tovmasyan, a member of the All-Armenian National Congress (HHSh), who participated in the conference, says LYMEC will use all its resources to have the resolution implemented.
The HHSh youth union became a full member of the LYMEC during the Organization's conference held in Bulgaria on October 10-14.
Tigran Arakelyan was taken into custody after an August 2011 standoff with police officers in a Yerevan park and was immediately charged with hooliganism against a representative of law-enforcement body.
