BHK convenes sitting to discuss Prosecutor General's petition
The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) today convened a sitting in its central office to discuss the Prosecutor-General's petition to involve BHK MP Vartan Oskanian as a defendant in the case filed by the RA National Security Service.
"The charges are groundless. Everything else will be known on Monday," 168.am cited Oskanian as saying after the meeting.
Asked whether he was psychologically prepared for arrest, Vartan Oskanian said, "From now on, I am psychologically ready for everything."
On Sept. 27, Prosecutor-General Aghvan Hovsepyan asked the Armenian parliament to allow the NSS to formally prosecute Vartan Oskanian on money laundering charges.
The case stems from a nearly $2 million donation which Oskanian and his Civilitas Foundation received from U.S. companies last year. The NSS claims that Civilitas failed to declare the donation to tax authorities. Oskanian has strongly denied these allegations and linked them with his political activities.
Oskanian was Armenia's Foreign Minister from 1998 to 2008.
