The only candidate elected as Yeghvard Mayor
The only candidate for mayor in Armenia's Yeghvard city [in Kotayk marz] was elected during the Sept. 24 elections.
Of the 10 133 eligible voters, 5633 went to the polls, with 5 385 voting for Norayr Sargsyan.
The fight for the City Council seats was rather tense, with 24 candidates competing for 11 seats. No violations and irregularities were reported during the vote.
Communist candidate elected village elder
The Communist Party of Armenia (HKK) had nominated six candidates for Sunday's local elections in Armenia. Only one of them, Vanik Harutyunyan, was elected as elder of Batikyan village, HKK's First Secretary Ruben Tovmasyan said on Monday.
Local elections in Armenia were held with the same spirit and style as the parliamentary elections, he stressed.
