By saying independence we mean a free citizen with his rights to live and create, says Aram Manukyan, Chairman of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh).

"Once these rights are violated, independence is undermined. Today citizens in Armenia are afraid to live in their homeland," he said.

"If things continue this way, if thieves, criminals and murderers continue to govern the country, we cannot force our citizens to fight against the criminal regime," said the HHSh official.

Despite the existing problems, Aram Manukyan singles out two major achievements on the way to independence.

"Armenia had most serious achievements in terms of dignity and success. A human being, believing in the idea, went to the polls to vote. And there were more than 2 million of them. Two million Armenians built their independence with happiness and joy," he said.

The HHSh Board is going to celebrate Independence Day near the Statue of Saryan with the Armenian National Congress (HAK).

Mr. Manukyan could not say whether HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan is going to announce his decision to run for the 2013 presidential elections during today's meeting.
