Armenian Parliament to hold special session Sept 5
The speaker of Armenian National Assembly, Hovik Abrahamyan, conducted a working discussion on Monday to discuss the extradition of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov, his ensuing pardoning by Azerbaijan and Armenian parliament's future steps in that direction.
The meeting was attended by vice-chairpersons of the National Assembly and the heads of standing committees.
Hovik Abrahamyan suggested holding a special session on September 5.
The parliament speaker reminded the participants that during the recent sitting of the National Security Council, Serzh Sargsyan had called for convening a special parliament meeting. Mr. Abrahamyan said the steps taken by the Hungarian and Azerbaijani authorities conflict with international conventions, pursue narrow interests and essentially affect the peace efforts in the region.
Then he stressed the need of adopting a condemnatory statement by the Armenian parliament and sending it to international organizations, parliamentary assemblies and parliaments of other countries.
The participants of the working meeting condemned the extradition and decided to create a working group for elaborating a draft statement.
Shavarsh Kocharyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, was present at the discussion.
