Hrant Bagratyan, Armenia's former prime minister, member of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), does not salute Armenia's decision to suspend diplomatic relations with Hungary over Azerbaijani soldier Ramil Safarov's extradition.
"Refusal to continue diplomatic ties is a moral victory and I am afraid that Armenia took the decision under the pressure of Europe," said Mr. Bagratyan.
He believes that severance of diplomatic relations will not have negative consequences for Hungary; therefore, Armenia should adopt a different attitude.
Hrant Bagratyan says the talks over the Karabakh issue should be discontinued unless Safarov is returned to Hungary. Armenia has no other lever to influence the decision on Safarov's release.
Had he been in place of Serzh Sargsyan, he would drop the negotiations over Karabakh. "I would also summon a parliament sitting to announce my decision."
"This is a good opportunity for Armenia to raise the issue of Karabakh recognition. We could only have dreamt of a better opportunity," he concluded.
