Police comment on Akhtala shooting
On August 30, at around 6:50 p.m., an unknown citizen called the Tumanyan Police Department to report about an attack on the house of Haykaz Khachikyan, mayor of Akhtala town. The perpetrator of the attack was reportedly a man nicknamed Bodol, the RA Police said in a statement issued earlier today.
On arriving at the scene, the operational investigative group found out that Arsen Chichyan, a resident of Akhtala, and Edgar Hakhverdyan, a resident of Shnogh village, Lori Marz (province) had attacked the apartment of[mayor's brother] Karen Khachikyan, breaking the entrance door, damaging and destroying the property. Further, they attacked and damaged the Mercedes Bens [belonging to Khachikyan's brother] which was parked outside the building, thereby inflicting large-scale property damage.
The preliminary investigation also revealed that on arriving home and learning about the attack, Karen Khachikyan went to Arsen Chichyan's apartment with his cousin Vachagan Khachikyan where they deliberately damaged the property and hit with rubber sticks the family members -Benik Chichyan, Bavakan Chichyan and Nune Khachikyan.
A criminal case has been instituted under Article 185 (part 3) of the RA Criminal Code.
