PAP: Criminal must bear responsibility
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) condemns the incident that occurred yesterday in the city of Gymri after the meeting that PAP mayoral candidate Samvel Balasanyan held as part of his election campaign (if the incident indeed occurred).
"Any crime, any violation of the law must be punished in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code , without taking any other considerations and circumstances into account. The criminal must bear responsibility and I do not care whether or not this takes place in connection with the political developments, "Mr. Urikhanyan stated.
Responding to our remark that according to circulating rumors, shots were fired after the election campaign meeting held by PAP candidate Samvel Balasanyan, Mr. Urikhanyan considered this even more blameworthy.
"Any crime that a person incapable of withstanding political competition commits against his rivals is blameworthy. Regardless of the target and the circumstances of the crime, it must be punished. In general, Prosperous Armenia stands for any citizen, any figure whose interests have been violated illegally," he said.
A1+ requested Ms. Lilit Aghekyan, spokeswoman for Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, to provide explanations regarding the incident. However, she was unaware of the shoot-out that took place in Armenia's second largest city. According to rumors in the press, the son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan was involved in the shout-out.
"I don't know whether any shots were fired, but obviously, the mayor's son is currently absent from the republic and that incident has nothing to do with him," Lilit Aghekyan said.
We attempted to find out if the police searched the house of Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan last night. "No such thing happened. I wonder where you obtain information and why a search was to be made".
In connection with the incident in Gyumri, a criminal case was opened under Article 258 Part 4 of the RA Criminal Code., Head of the RA Police PR Department Ashot Aharonyan informed A1+.
By the way, Mr. Urikhanyan told A1+ that they have not yet discussed the issue of whether they will field their candidate to run in electoral district No 1 where RPA deputy Ruben Hayrapetyan has given up his mandate of a parliamentary deputy.
