Mkhitar Alumyan, a former police officer in Armenia, has declared a hunger strike outside the builkding of the RA Police after attempting to set himself on fire on June 17.

He demands that the police pay him his wages for overtime service (about 2,5 mln. drams) and finance the treatment costs of his ten-year-old daughter.

The aggravated father was accompanied by his two daughters - Gayane, 12, and Karine, 10.
Karine is blind in the left eye and needs the aid of crutches to move around.

"When I grow up, I want to become a lawyer," she says.

Mkhitar Alumyan was received today by Merujan Hakobyan, an aide of Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan, who said ‘there is no point in demanding money as Alumyan has no grounds.'
The father of five children is determined to continue the protest until the issue is tackled.
