“They won’t unite around Ter-Petrosyan”
Secretary of Heritage Party's faction Stepan Safaryan says even though Levon Ter-Petrosyan hasn't lost his charisma, he still won't be able to unite the opposition forces in the 2013 presidential elections.
"Armenian society doesn't like a defeated political figure. To a great extent, not winning has already become a problem for Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and it is rare that Armenian society will decide to view him as the main favorite the second time, unlike the political figures before him," said Stepan Safaryan.
Safaryan also touched upon the relations between Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) and Heritage Party and denied the rumors that his party has started getting on the BHK's good side. We remind that the BHK didn't participate in the compilation of questions of the questionnaire presented by three NA factions in relation to the incidents that took place at Harsnakar Restaurant Complex, saying that it wouldn't sign under a document that Heritage Party signed.
Stepan Safaryan says he learned his lesson from the conflict between the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and Heritage Party, which he says simply debilitated the opposition forces.
"Heritage Party has had conflicts with the HAK, and we saw that neither Heritage nor the HAK got anything out of that," said Stepan Safaryan.
Safaryan also touched upon the situation in Syria and particularly the fate of Syrian-Armenians. According to him, the most dangerous thing is the Armenian political elite's indifference toward the situation in Syria.
"First, the developments can present a serious danger and already do for the organized Syrian-Armenian community. It is Armenia's duty to receive the wave of refugees who simply won't have any option to stay in Syria," said Stepan Safaryan.
