Armenia and Russia must deepen their bilateral partnership within international parliamentary structures," said Chairman of the RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan during a joint press conference with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Sergey Narishkin.

"In the context of the deepening of interstate relations we attached importance to the need of reinforcing the activities of the inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the Russian Federal Assembly. The Armenian side proposed to discuss the possibility of forming an institute of representatives of both parliaments in the RA National Assembly and the Russian State Duma respectively," said NA Chairman Hovik Abrahamyan.

Hovik Abrahamyan and Sergey Narishkin had a short meeting near the entrance to the NA building in the form of a briefing, but didn't give journalists the chance to ask their questions. Before arriving at the National Assembly, Sergey Narishkin had had a meeting with Serzh Sargsyan and had mentioned that Russia was especially interested in the implementation of the Eurasian economic project, to which Armenia has given its consent.

"Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarussia have launched a project to create a common economic sphere, and Armenia is trying to find its place in that project since it will provide broad opportunities for development," noted Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Sergey Narishkin.

In this context Sergey Narishkin attached importance to the implementation of the free trade zone program in Armenia along with the CIS countries. The RA National Assembly will discuss the agreement in the fall. Narishkin recalled that Russia and Armenia are strategic partners with a common ideology and that the amount of Russia's investments in Armenia's economy makes up more than 3 billion dollars.
