Sargsyan conveyed greetings to Pope of Rome
Serzh Sargsyan today received Prefect of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, President of the Oriental Papal Institute, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri.
Sargsyan greeted the guest and underlined with satisfaction that the cooperation between Armenia and the Vatican, as well as the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Holy See is at a high level and is contributed by the reciprocal visits and active political dialogue.
Sargsyan said his meeting with the Pope of Rome Benedict XVI last year served as a good opportunity to discuss the agenda and perspectives for the development of relations between Armenia and the Vatican. According to Serzh Sargsyan, the historical bilateral ties, rich cultural and spiritual heritage are the best preconditions for ongoing deepening of cooperation.
During the meeting, the interlocutors shared the view that the long-running bilateral relations between Armenia and the Vatican aren't limited to the diplomatic relations established 20 years ago, but are developing and deepening year after year.
Cardinal Leonardo Sandri conveyed the best wishes of Pope of Rome Benedict XVI to President Serzh Sargsyan, Armenia and the Armenian people. The leader of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, the Cardinal mentioned that Armenia is a country that strives for peace and mutual understanding with all nations of the world, and that with his visit he would like to show his respect to Armenia, which has such strive. He underlined that the Holy See admires the history of Armenia as the country that was the first to adopt Christianity as a state religion and the country's loyalty to Christianity.
