Everyone needs willpower
Wrong terminology, imprecise statistics, incompatibility between what is beign said and what is being shown in videos, tendency to make people care for the disabled or the opposite-this is what Unison NGO has recorded during its TV monitoring.
President of Unison NGO Armen Alaverdyan is concerned about the views expressed in Armenian soap operas that only through great willpower can the disabled get back on their feet.
"Does this mean that people like me who still haven't gotten back on their feet lack willpower? In reality, that's not true. Everyone needs willpower," said Alaverdyan.
Alaverdyan underlined that the rights of those with hearing problems continue to be violated. Sometimes there is no pseudo translation of news broadcasts, and the subtitles that sometimes appear on the screen don't solve the problem either.
Alaverdyan says people even have to be cautious when using the word "disabled" and not speculate it for no reason.
Employment remains the primary issue of concern for people with disabilities in Armenia, and out of the 172,000 disabled, only 8-9 percent of them are employed.
