Stepan Safaryan will try again
Secretary of Heritage Party Stepan Safaryan says he will put his strengths to the test as a deputy candidate at precinct N 1 once again. This comes after member of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Ruben Hayrapetyan declared that he was dropping his mandate.
"I will be ready to compete at the precinct with support from my party, as well as other oppositionist political parties," said Safaryan.
Ruben Hayrapetyan declared that he was dropping his mandate after the tragic death of military doctor Vahe Avetyan, who was brutally beaten by Ruben Hayrapetyan's bodyguards at his Harsnakar Restaurant Complex.
"Such an incident is inadmissible and impermissible. I have considered and still consider this the result of impunity that has been going on for years in Armenia," mentioned the party's secretary.
Stepan Safaryan also said he was surprised by Hayrapetyan's resignation. "It would never cross my mind that impunity would end after a death and that that death would become a reason for holding new elections."
Safaryan says he is following up on the developments taking place in the political field and believes Serzh Sargsyan simply won't be able to relieve himself of oligarchs in the parliament before the upcoming presidential elections.
The fact of the matter is that Ruben Hayrapetyan is still a deputy. When asked if it was likely that Hayrapetyan will change his mind during the autumn sitting of the National Assembly, Safaryan said he had trouble making a prediction.
Taking the opportunity, Stepan Safaryan also thanked his voters at precinct N 1 who cast their votes of confidence. "I think garnering nearly 10,000 votes without distributing electoral bribes and dragging people out of their homes is a very serious indicator."
Touching upon Armenia's foreign policy, Stepan Safaryan mentioned that there is no danger of a war anytime soon. As for the upcoming presidential elections in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Heritage Party doesn't have a preferred candidate.
