The opposition forces in Armenia will unite over one candidate during the 2013 presidential elections and that candidate will be [Heritage party leader] Raffi Hovannisian, says Armen Martirosyan, deputy head of Heritage party.

"Heritage joined the opposition in 2003 and 2008. Similarly, we expect them to join us in next year's elections," said Mr. Martirosyan.

The former MP predicts grave consequences for the country's future prosperity in case the opposition forces fail to unite. "It is much more important that the united candidate be able to dictate certain conditions to the authorities," he stressed.

Armen Martirosyan says the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) will name Serzh Sargsyan as its candidate for the presidential elections and Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) will name Vartan Oskanian. The Heritage representative does not exclude that BHK may also name a candidate for the post of prime minister.

"BHK is the second party in parliament and is likely to pose a similar demand," he concluded.
