Alexander Arzumanyan scoffs at HAK
The opposition is obliged to name a joint candidate for the 2013 presidential elections, Alexander Arzumanyan, a member of the Free Democrats Party.
He says the opposition filed is fragmented and separatist tendencies prevail over united ideas. He reminds that the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) is still sustaining losses.
Unlike others, Alexander Arzumanyan did not feel any remark in [HAK leader] Levon Ter-Petrosyan's recent statement that the opposition might name Vartan Oskanian as its candidate in next year's presidential elections. Nor does he believe that Ter-Petrosyan may support Vartan Oskanian in the elections.
Arzumanyan says his party will support [Heritage leader] Raffi Hovannisian if the latter decided to run for presidency.
"I have never been an adherent of Oskanian's ideas," says the country's ex-foreign minister.
With regard to the HAK and its thinning ranks, Mr. Arzumanyan said, "More parties are quitting the opposition alliance these days. The more parties leave the HAK, the more powerful it will become and the easier it will overcome today's processes."
