The position of the marzpet (governor) of Gegharkunik region Nver Poghosyan, who is a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), had remained vacant since May 31, but the government filled the gap today by appointing deputy of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Rafik Grigoryan as the new marzpet. To this day, Grigoryan neither denies nor confirms the news about his appointment.

"There hadn't been any discussion. Serzh Sargsyan gave me the offer on Monday evening, and then the HHK executive body discussed the issue," said the new marzpet.

Grigoryan says he has led the HHK territorial structure in Gegharkunik region for a decade and is well aware of the region's issues, which are the same as those across the country.

Rafik Grigoryan avoided giving any evaluation of the work or flaws of the previous marzpet.

"I will study the work that has been done and the flaws and express my opinion, but I think he worked well. We have worked together several times throughout the past five years," said Grigoryan.

Grigoryan assures that he will try to work with the old administration and won't bring in new workers.

As far as the issues related to Lake Sevan are concerned, Rafik Grigoryan promises that "the territory will be cleaned of illegal structures, extra trees and plants".
