Armenia's entrepreneurship and the Diaspora

On June 28, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received a group of experts of the World Bank (WB).

Among the participants of the meeting were the WB economist for the financial and private sector development affairs in Africa, Smita Kuriakos, WB correspondent for financial and private sector in Europe and Central Asia, Kristina Tipman and Professor of the Department of Economics at George Washington University, Nikolas Vonortas.

The goal of the expert group's visit was to conduct a study on the development of entrepreneurship in Armenia, particularly the involvement and the role of the Diaspora in that sphere.

During the meeting, Hranush Hakobyan presented the programs and activities of the RA Ministryof Diaspora in that sphere, including the organizing of professional forums and the establishment of a network of pan-Armenian chambers of commerce. The minister underlined that the Diaspora was 80% involved in 4,500 medium businesses in Armenia.

Minister Hranush Hakobyan mentioned that the Diaspora Armenians' participation in entrepreneurship would further increase through the right propaganda. She also attached importance to international organizations' assistance in assessing the Diaspora's needs and support to the government in developing programs that meet those needs, as well as disseminating information about Diaspora Armenians doing business in different spheres in Armenia.
