RA Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan today participated in the third session of the Armenia-EU subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security before the launch of today's government session.

When asked what would happen to the judges whose verdicts had been appealed to the European Court and the European Court had taken a decision favoring the plaintiffs and hurting the Republic of Armenia, the minister mentioned that the society wanted to find culprits and punish them, but that the important thing was to find out if the judge truly committed a violation or not.

"In some cases the government loses the verdict for a case that had been sent in 2003-2006. In most cases, the reason is because Armenia's legislation was in contrast to European standards, and our judges were mainly guided by the Armenian legislation," said the minister.

The minister added that the government was currently studying to see which judge had to be brought to be justice. "if we find that a judge has committed an overt violation, that will serve as ground for a regulatory liability for the latter," said Tovmasyan, underlining that it wasn't right to bring the judges whose verdicts are appealed to justice.
