Azerbaijan didn’t avoid
The PACE Committee for Legal Affairs and Human Rights has adopted a draft resolution based on German reporter Christoph Strässer's report on Azerbaijani political prisoners. The draft resolution was approved by a small difference of votes.
The draft will most likely be discussed and put up for a vote at the plenary session of the PACE autumn sitting.
Armenian delegate to the PACE, Zaruhi Postanjyan, who was a member of this Committee, said the countries that face the issue of political prisoners, including Turkey and Russia were against the resolution.
Zaruhi Postanjyan also didn't understand Armenia's neighboring country, Georgia's behavior. Georgia's representative voted for and against the provisions stated in the draft.
"I think Georgia also has a problem with political prisoners since Vahagn Chakhalyan is actually in jail for his political views," Zaruhi Postanjyan told "A1+".
Postanjyan assumes that the draft resolution paves a way for discussing the situation in other countries where people are persecuted for their political views.
