Man commits suicide jumping from Eiffel Tower
A man has committed suicide by climbing up the Eiffel Tower and jumping to his death, www.dailystar.com reports.
Police spotted the man climbing the structure of the tower around 11:30 pm (2130 GMT). They evacuated the tower, sealed off the area and tried to negotiate with the 24-year-old man, who spoke English, a police source said.
The negotiations failed and the man jumped from between the tower's second level and the top, a height of between 125 and 324 meters (410 to 1,063 feet).
Suicides by jumping from the tower "happen frequently enough, but it is rare for someone to be able to climb so high," said the source.
No more details are known about the man. It is only known that firefighters negotiated with him for two hours trying to talk him into descending from the tower but to no avail.
