The Administrative Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Eva Darbinyan, today upheld [Armenian second President] Robert Kocharyan's decree, thereby rejected the compliant of lifer Mher Yenokyan.

The lifer and his legal representative Robert Revazyan were disputing in court the 2003 decree of Robert Kocharyan according to which death penalty was replaced by life imprisonment in the case against Mher Yenokyan. The plaintiff claims that the decree had a severe effect which is prohibited by law.

Robert Revazyan is going to appeal the decision in a higher court and, if necessary, in the European Court of Human Rights.

Yenokyan was arrested in 1996 and was charged with murdering his classmate. He has never pleaded guilty.
